Four Weeks In

Number 45 of a series

Do I need to keep going on with this? Daniel Dale, with the Washington bureau of The Star, compiled a list of 80 fabrications by the Donald Trump, all during the first four weeks of the new administration. That was so many days ago, and more recently Trump’s occupational pratfalls have advanced to front and center. His determined effort to humiliate himself (also the American image in the process) has eclipsed his lack of familiarity with the truth.

Forge ahead I must. History awaits. Here is number 45:

45. Feb. 6, 2017 — Speech to U.S. Central Command

The repeated claim: “I have already saved more than $700 million when I got involved in the negotiation on the F-35. You know about that.”

In fact: Trump did not personally secure these savings: Lockheed Martin had been moving to cut the price well before Trump was elected, multiple aviation and defence experts say. Just a week after Trump’s election, the head of the F-35 program announced a reduction of 6 to 7 per cent — in the $600 million to $700 million range.

“Trump’s claimed $600 million cut is right in the ballpark of what the price reduction was going to be all along,” wrote Popular Mechanics. “Bottom line: Trump appears to be taking credit for years of work by the Pentagon and Lockheed,” Aviation Week reported, per the Washington Post.

Daniel Dale’s list has since grown. As of 23 March the count was up to 143. How long can he keep this up? Better yet, how long am I going to keep this up?

Until there is no skin left.
