The Golden Shower

Something interesting

I really hate it when I turn out to be right most of the time. Just kidding. I’m loving it.

Truth be told, I am not always right. Yesterday in this series I told readers that retired Lieutenant General Michael Flynn had resigned his position as National Security Advisor. As is now revealed, I was wrong. What actually happened is that President Donald Trump fired the general after learning Flynn discussed with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak the sanctions President Obama levied on Russia. Obama imposed the sanctions, expelling a number of the Russian diplomatic delegation from the United States, in response to demonstrated Russian interference with the November 2016 elections. At the time, General Flynn was not an employee of the United States government, having previously been fired by President Obama from his position as Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency. Long-standing law makes it illegal for American citizens to negotiate foreign policy outside of official channels.

Yesterday evening ABC World News Tonight with David Muir reported extensively on  the story. Screen shots are from  Hulu.

President Obama imposed the sanctions and ordered expulsion of Russian officials on 29 December. Scant hours after that was announced, General Flynn was on the phone to Ambassador Kislyak. What is most curious is that Flynn, no stranger to American intelligence operations, should have known that American intelligence services were snooping on conversations with foreign governments.

Subsequently, when officials speaking for the Trump White House asserted there was no discussion of the sanctions, intelligence community people acquainted with the snooping decided to take another listen to the recorded intercepts. It was apparent the general was lying to his boss.

They perceived this as a security threat, because there was the possibility the Russians could use these conversations to blackmail the American director of the DIA. Word was passed upstream in the government, ultimately landing on the President’s desk. There was a delay of over two weeks, apparently taking that long for the Trump administration to adjust to this new embarrassment. But on Monday General Flynn was fired, again.

But not before our beloved Kellyanne Conway was given yet one more chance to embarrass herself and the administration:

Conway: “Yes, General Flynn does enjoy the full confidence of the president.”

Thank you, Kellyanne.

ABC News could not resist showing us again the photo of General Flynn rubbing shoulders, figuratively speaking, with Russian autocrat Vladimir Putin.

General Flynn’s previous departure from government service is cataloged in his Wikipedia entry:

According to The New York Times, Flynn exhibited a loose relationship with facts, leading his subordinates to refer to Flynn’s repeated dubious assertions as “Flynn facts”

That might explain the following clip. Here is the retired general at a Trump campaign rally, leading a chant of  “Lock her up!” The reference was to presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

For those who enjoy irony, Hillary Clinton broke no laws, and despite having Donald Trump as president and a solid Republican Party majority in congress, there is no movement on the part of the Trump Justice Department to prosecute Clinton for any imagined crime. The ex-general, not so much.

Keep reading. And carry around your own copy of the Pee Pee Tape. No telling when you might run into a Trump supporter. There are still some around.
