Drain the swamp

It is a well known fact of life: You paid for it, you own it. Well, not so fast:

(CNN) — “Drain the swamp” was a refrain of Donald Trump during the presidential campaign, but Newt Gingrich says the president-elect “doesn’t want to use it anymore” now that he’s knee-deep in alligators.

“I’m told he now just disclaims that. He now says it was cute, but he doesn’t want to use it anymore,” Gingrich, who informally advises Trump, said Wednesday on NPR’s “Morning Edition.”

The former House Speaker said that he had “written what I thought was a very cute tweet about ‘the alligators are complaining,'” but that “somebody wrote back and said they were tired of hearing this stuff.”

You are thinking about now that hundreds of thousands (millions?) of Trump voters, who clung to his every oration throughout his rise to power, are now feeling somewhat let down. Could it be they’re thinking, “I voted for this guy with the idea he was going to drain  the swamp. This is getting to look a lot like bait-and-switch.”

Nah. Step out of Dream World, liberals. These people are never going to turn aside from Donald Trump. If there is one thing he said during his campaign it was, “I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters.”

Believe it.

  1. Yes John, this tracks precisely my own thoughts on the matter, as the Preznit-elect began back-pedaling furiously on many positions even before the Electoral College gave him its blessing. But as someone very astutely pointed out, people do not like to admit they have been swindled so easily, so they’ll put up a brave face and ‘splain it away while seething inside.

The question for me is is ‘What about the call to “Greatness” that conspicuously never comes? What about even more decline and despair? Will his 47% of “deplorables” put up with it for four years?’

But of course once El Supremo has his hand on the trigger they won’t have much choice.
