A warning for those who chance to meet a wild Trump coming home late at night, past a graveyard, all alone in a storm: Don’t bump the Trump. [With apologies to Shel Silverstein.]
I’ve been running this love fest with presidential candidate Donald Trump for over four weeks with no idea where it’s heading. Now I find I will be able to post a new item every day from now until November without repeating myself. Thank you, Mr. Trump. It’s the nicest thing anybody’s ever done for me.Thank you very, very, very much!
Self-obsessed billionaire Donald Trump earlier snatched the campaign torch from the Republican Party by scooping up conservative America’s low-hanging fruit. Full disclosure: it’s something I proclaimed over a year ago could not be done. I was wrong! How wrong? Very wrong. I completely failed to take into consideration that Donald Trump is one cool dude:
New York (CNN) — Donald Trump on Tuesday went on a sustained frontal assault against the media during a contentious news conference.
The billionaire had called the news conference to announce an accounting of his at least $5.6 million in fundraising for veterans groups, but spent most of the 40 minutes criticizing and insulting reporters — collectively and at times individually — as “dishonest,” “not good people,” sleazy, and among the worst human beings he has ever met.
And he vowed the White House briefing room would be just as combative as the Trump Tower lobby, where the developer addressed reporters Tuesday, should he ascend to the Oval Office.
No! Can’t be. If Donald Trump ever had accounting problems with a few million dollars he professed to have raised for veterans groups, he would have taken the burden on his own shoulders and never would have attempted to blame others, especially not the news media.
So, this is good. Trump collects money from other people, then he distributes it to groups that support American veterans. We hope:
How much, in total, did Trump raise at that fundraiser?
Trump gave that figure on Tuesday, and backed it up by listing gifts to 41 different veterans’ charities that totaled $5.6 million.
On the night of the fundraiser, Trump had told the crowd “We just cracked $6 million! Right? $6 million.” He repeated the figure for several days afterward, both at rallies and on TV morning shows. On Tuesday, Trump did not explain why the final total had fallen short of $6 million, but he said he believed that more donations would come in later and that the total might eventually top $6 million after all.
How many new donations were announced on Tuesday?
By The Post’s count, 18 new gifts, totaling about $1.5 million.
In each case, Trump was giving away other people’s money. Other donors, both large and small, had entrusted this money to the Donald J. Trump Foundation, on the understanding that Trump would then distribute it to veterans.
The story continues with links to organizations Donald Trump distributed money to. And it was all reported, in the press.
Thank you, Mr. Trump. Thank you very, very, very much.
Yeah, it’s game on. We are going to have more fun between now and November. We can be assured Donald Trump will never fail to entertain us.
