Where have we seen this before?
Now I had long believed that you should not have to pay for good government. You should be handed it as a birthright. You are born, you have your birth certificate in hand, and somebody comes up to and says, “Here you are, good government. Have a happy life.” I have long ago learned it is not that way. You want good government; you need to pay for it. Actually, you want bad government; you need to pay for that, as well. Nothing comes free. Not even bad government. Let me tell you some sad stories about bad government you paid for but did not get.
Hey! That was four years ago. We’re doing much better now, right? Right! From The Dallas Morning News:
Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick calls Dallas protesters ‘hypocrites’ for running from sniper’s bullets
Updated at 5:28 p.m.: This story has been revised to include additional comment from Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick saying he might have chosen the wrong words and additional comment from Gov. Greg Abbott.
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick called protesters who ran away from the hail of bullets that rained down on Downtown Dallas on Thursday night “hypocrites” during an interview Friday on Fox News.
“All those protesters last night, they turned around and ran the other way expecting the men and women in blue to protect them. What hypocrites!” an audibly emotional Patrick said.
The News item by Brandi Grissom takes note that Lieutenant Governor Patrick had second thoughts after first speaking his foremost mind. It’s possible he got to thinking, “Hey! These people might get around to voting in the next election.” Or something like that.
I recall two years ago when I gave money to get Dan Patrick elected Lieutenant Governor of Texas. And then I diligently went to the polls in November and voted for him.
I have that backwards. I gave money to the Democrats two years ago, and I am sure I did not vote for Dan Patrick, although I am still trying to figure out why not. Apparently I got the government somebody else paid for. Thank you very much.
