Disclaimer: Rafael Cruz is not a public official. He does not hold elected office. He is not running for public office. I am assuming he is not an official spokesman for his son, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas.
That said, he continues to make news. The Energizer Bunny needs to take lessons.
Ted Cruz’s Father: Black People ‘Uninformed’ And ‘Deceived’
After attending a panel on minority outreach at the
FreedomWorks grassroots summit, Cruz, a Cuban-American,
born-again Christian, spoke at the conference. He noted that a
previous speaker “mentioned something about Hispanics being
uninformed or deceived.”
“Well, the same thing is true of the black population,” Cruz said.
Cruz also suggested how blacks and Hispanics should vote. “As a
matter of fact, if we could communicate the truth, not only to
the Hispanics but to the black population, all blacks should be
Republican,” he said.
The elder Cruz makes the historical mistake I keep getting from a lot of Tea Party fans:
The 74-year-old tea party icon also attributed “all the civil
rights” that African-Americans have achieved to Republicans.
“Let’s talk about the black population. All the civil rights that the
African Americans have obtained have come from Republicans,”
Cruz said. “But you know what, Democrats took the credit.”
Ignore for a moment that the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments to the Constitution, which
abolished slavery, granted citizenship to ex-slaves and voting rights to all men (took
another amendment for women), were pushed through by the liberal politicians of their
day. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 were pushed through
by Democrats, which party was by then the liberal party. This action caused hordes of
conservatives, including the likes of Mr. Cruz, to quickly desert the Democratic Party and
switch to the Republican Party.
Liberals can only hope that Mr. Cruz senior continues to enjoy a long and healthy life and
that he continues to vent forth the rhetoric so representative of his Tea Party friends.
